State election 2014: Election assistants wanted for voluntary work
The election to the Sixth Saxon State Parliament will take place on Sunday, 31 August 2014. To ensure the proper conduct of this election, an electoral board will be formed for each of the 161 polling districts in the city of Chemnitz to ensure the smooth running of voting and the counting of votes at the respective polling station on election Sunday. The polling stations are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on election day. The City of Chemnitz is asking citizens to support the organisation of the 2014 state election and the work of the electoral authority by volunteering to work as a member of an electoral board or as the head/deputy head of an electoral board. The call has been published in the official gazette of the City of Chemnitz (21 May and 4 June 2014) and on the city's website at www.chemnitz.de/wahlen.
Tasks and activities of the election committee: On election Sunday, the members of the electoral board meet at the polling station at 7.30 a.m. and receive a short briefing on their tasks; they are divided into deployment and break times, so that a deployment will generally not extend over the entire day. The electoral authority therefore endeavours to deploy poll workers close to their homes. The entire electoral board meets back at the polling station at around 5.30 p.m. to prepare and carry out the ascertainment of results. Once the results have been determined, the operation is over.
For their voluntary work on the electoral board, electoral assistants receive a so-called refreshment allowance - for their work on a general electoral board, supervisors receive 45 euros, deputies 35 euros and owners 30 euros; for their work on a postal voting board, supervisors receive 40 euros, deputies 30 euros and observers 25 euros.
Declaration of willingness (form see www.chemnitz.de/wahlen): Citizens who would like to support the organisation of the state election in Chemnitz by working on an election committee should send their declaration of willingness by post to the City of Chemnitz, Electoral Authority, 09106 Chemnitz, by fax 0371 488-1896 or by email: wahlhelfer(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
The declaration of willingness can also be submitted directly - in each case at the information desk in the town hall, Markt 1, in the Bürgerhaus am Wall, Düsseldorfer Platz 1, in the Bürger- und Verwaltungszentrum Moritzhof, Bahnhofstraße 53, in the Technical Town Hall, Annaberger Straße 89 - as well as at the citizen service points and directly at the city's electoral authority, Getreidemarkt 3. Information can also be obtained by dialling 115.
Letters of appeal: Appeal letters are sent out approx. 3 to 4 weeks before the election date. Citizens who do not receive a letter of appeal during this period must be prepared for the fact that their assignment can still be determined operationally until the Friday before the election (29 August 2014).
If there are any changes to the dates specified in the declaration of readiness, please inform the electoral authority immediately.
