State Directorate declares contracts with the Gunzenhauser Foundation legally valid
The State Directorate of Saxony has approved all contracts between the City of Chemnitz and the Gunzenhauser Foundation. The re-examination by the legal supervisory authority became necessary in the course of the partial reorganisation of the contracts between the two parties.
Among other things, the operating agreement between the City of Chemnitz and the Gunzenhauser Foundation was the subject of the review. This was approved by the Chemnitz City Council in July 2012 after the legal supervisory authority had classified the contract dating back to 2003 as not eligible for approval. The audit covered all contracts relating to the Gunzenhauser Museum, including the framework agreement, the delimitation of duties agreement and the construction contract. In addition, the reporting obligations of the City of Chemnitz to the state directorate and the Chemnitz City Council were regulated.
The Gunzenhauser Museum is home to one of the most important collections of classical modern art. The then Federal President Horst Köhler officially opened the museum on 1 July 2007, which is home to the collection of almost 2,500 works by Munich gallery owner Dr Alfred Gunzenhauser.
The former savings bank building on Falkeplatz was remodelled especially for the Gunzenhauser Museum and was awarded the 2010 Architecture Prize of the Saxony State Association of the Association of German Architects (BDA).
