Start of the final construction phase of the four-lane expansion of Zschopauer Straße (B174) in the urban section Südring to Bergfrieden
Traffic routing to be changed in stages
A new construction phase has begun on the four-lane expansion of Zschopauer Straße in the urban section between Südring and Bergfrieden: Following completion of the land-side carriageways along the entire length of the extension and the city-side carriageways between Südring and Georgistraße, the final construction phase, the city-side section between Georgistraße and Bergfrieden, is now being tackled.
Preparations for this will be carried out next week and the traffic routing will be changed. There will then be four lanes between Südring and Georgistraße and two lanes on the landward side between Georgistraße and the junction with the new B174 at Bergfrieden.
The changeover to the new construction phase will take place in stages over the next week:
On Monday, 18 August 2014, traffic will first begin to be rerouted to the new lanes in the section from Georgistraße to Bergfrieden. The traffic lights at the Georgistraße junction will also be put into operation at this time.
In the Südring to Georgistraße section, there will still be restrictions to one lane at a time until Friday, 22 August 2014 in order to carry out the necessary road markings and mowing work on the verge. Afterwards, both carriageways can be used while the traffic lights at Richterweg (pedestrian crossing and Richterweg exit) are in operation.
In the final construction phase, in addition to the widening of the B174, the access carriageway (behind the noise barrier, for residents) between Otto-Thörner-Straße and Bergfrieden will be constructed as well as completion work on the ancillary facilities and residents' access roads.
From October, tree planting and greening are planned for the four-lane section that has been opened up. Further lane restrictions are to be expected during this time.
The construction project is scheduled for completion in spring 2015.
