Start of construction work on widening Wolgograder Allee between the Chemnitzer Straße and Arno-Schreiter-Straße roundabouts
On Monday, 27 February 2017, work will begin on widening Wolgograder Allee between the Chemnitzer Straße and Arno-Schreiter-Straße roundabouts.
The approx. 450 m long section between the roundabouts currently has a total of four lanes and a total width of approx. 17 metres. With the fundamental renewal of this road section, the traffic flow is to be optimised and the road cross-section adapted to the existing traffic volume.
In future, two lanes with a road width of 10.20 m will connect the roundabouts. Cycle lanes, each 1.85 m wide, are planned on the sides of the carriageway. The remaining carriageway width between the cycle lanes is 6.50 m.
The areas that are no longer used, mainly the previous lanes facing the land, will be removed. Traffic areas totalling 1,900 m² will be unsealed.
The Max-Müller-Straße junction will be redesigned and given two crossing islands on Wolgograder Allee. The traffic lights at the junction will be replaced by pedestrian traffic lights at the western crossing island.
The rounding of Max-Müller-Straße will be adapted in terms of position and height to the new edge of the carriageway of Wolgograder Allee. The existing separate right-turn lane on Max-Müller-Straße will also be removed and the pavement moved to the new edge of the carriageway.
The existing CVAG bus stops on both sides of the road will also be rebuilt and redesigned as bus stops at the edge of the carriageway in accordance with the standard construction methods of the city of Chemnitz. Floor indicators will be installed to make the crossing and bus stops barrier-free.
The construction work will last until the end of November 2017 and will be carried out in three phases. In the first construction phase (until approx. June 2017), the side of the carriageway facing the city centre will be built, with both directions of travel being maintained.
In the subsequent construction phases, the construction work will be carried out on the landward side, with the sections being divided again at Max-Müller-Straße. During construction phases 2 and 3, Wolgograder Allee will be fully closed in the citybound direction. A one-way road will be set up in the landward direction. The diversion towards the city centre will be via Stollberger Straße and Wladimir-Sargorski-Straße.
HSE Bau GmbH Glauchau has been commissioned to carry out the construction work. The costs amount to approx. 800,000 euros.
