Start of construction work on the Knappteich pond in the Yorck area

Representatives of the media are cordially invited to the start of construction work on the Knappteich pond in the Yorck area and the ground-breaking ceremony with the Mayor of Chemnitz, Petra Wesseler, on Tuesday, 17 September at 4 pm.
Now that the inlet has been repaired, further construction work will be carried out to improve the situation at the Knappteich. The worn-out pond monk is to be replaced this autumn in a step-by-step process. (The term "monk" refers to the adjustable outlet mechanism of a pond.) By minimising possible water losses, a constant operating water level should be achieved in future.
In preparation for the upcoming construction work, however, the pond must be drained. This is to take place in stages from mid-September in order to be able to catch any fish, amphibians and reptiles that may be present and transfer them to suitable bodies of water.
Construction work is then scheduled to begin in the second week of October. As soon as the construction work has been completed, the pond will probably be able to be dammed again from mid-November.
The planning for this project by the City of Chemnitz/Green Space Office was carried out by the Chemnitz planning office KTi Klamra Trinks, which is also responsible for supervising the construction work.
The construction work was awarded to Techno-Farm und Service GmbH from Neukirchen-Adorf, a company with experience in hydraulic engineering, following a call for tenders.
The cost of the planned services is around 23,000 euros.
