Start of construction work for the continuation of the Kalkstraße motorway feeder road from the Chemnitz-Rottluff junction to Oberfrohnaer Straße
The Free State of Bavaria has awarded the city a grant of around 2.6 million euros for the realisation of the construction measures
The city of Chemnitz has received a funding decision from the Free State for around 2.6 million euros. The city will use the funds to realise the conversion and new construction of the 3rd construction phase of the Kalkstraße motorway feeder road to the existing Chemnitz-Rottluff motorway junction on the A 72. The total costs amount to around 4.5 million euros.
On Monday, 6 October, work will begin on clearing the construction site for the new Kalkstraße motorway feeder road from the Chemnitz-Rottluff junction to Oberfrohnaer Straße. In the area of the future connection to the feeder road (junction of Weydemeyerstraße and Oberfrohnaer Straße), the existing overhead power line to the east of Weydemeyerstraße will be dismantled and the necessary underground cabling installed.
The road connection to Oberfrohnaer Straße will provide a direct link from Rabenstein to the A72 motorway and thus relieve the road connections via the district of Rottluff. The extension of the motorway feeder road will create an additional supra-regional connection to the inner-city road network. The extension of the Kalkstraße feeder road to Oberfrohnaer Straße is part of the traffic development plan and is part of the planned road core network. The new road construction will also provide access to the future Rabenstein industrial estate.
These construction measures are scheduled for completion in August 2016.
Planning permission was granted for the "Expansion of the Kalkstraße motorway feeder road in Chemnitz between Limbacher Straße and Oberfrohnaer Straße" measure via a planning approval procedure with a decision by the Chemnitz Regional Council on 12 December 2002.
