Start of construction work for the civil engineering department's bridge construction project: 1.4 million euros will be invested in the replacement of the Markersdorfer Straße bridge over the CVAG railway tracks

On Monday, 6 May 2013, construction work will begin on the replacement of the Markersdorfer Straße bridge over the CVAG tracks. Work will initially be carried out on site to set up the construction site as well as other preparatory measures and clearance work. The new construction of the bridge is the result of the generally poor structural condition of the substructures with extensive diagonal and network cracks as well as numerous moisture penetrations in the area of the support banks and insufficient frost resistance.

The existing bridge can currently only be used with load and speed restrictions as well as special permits. As a result of extensive planning, a new bridge structure was designed as a reinforced concrete frame structure on a deep foundation after weighing up all structural, economic, design and technological concerns as well as the importance of traffic.

The construction costs of the bridge construction project of the civil engineering office amount to approx. 1.4 million euros. The project is being subsidised as a measure of municipal road and bridge construction with funds of around 870,000 euros from the German Unbundling Act.

The new bridge construction is scheduled for approval in June 2014.

The company Gunter Hüttner & Co. GmbH from Chemnitz was commissioned to carry out the construction work following a public tender.

Traffic routing during the construction work: The old prefabricated bridge will be removed in sections, with one section being used as a temporary bridge for the overpass of bus route 52, for the fire brigade, the emergency services, pedestrian traffic and the temporary crossing of temporary power lines during construction. Road users should be aware that Markersdorfer Straße will have to be fully closed to general road traffic in the area of the bridge. Pedestrian traffic will be guaranteed at all times during the construction work. The diversion for vehicle traffic will be via Stollberger Straße -> Wladimir-Sagorski-Straße -> Burkhardtsdorfer Straße. The press office will be informed in good time when this necessary full closure and the associated diversion will begin.

The construction work will be carried out without disrupting tram traffic. Short-term closures will only be necessary in the course of demolition work or when converting the catenary system. These will be announced in good time by CVAG(www.cvag.de).
