Start of construction work at Chemnitz Zoo
Ibexes have temporarily moved to the cattle yard
Construction work has begun on the large hoofed animal enclosure at Chemnitz Zoo. The dismantling of the stables and paths will begin on Wednesday. The ibex have temporarily moved out of their enclosure and into the cattle yard and cannot be seen at the moment.
The Tierparkförderverein supports the zoo in the realisation of the master plan. The association's next two projects are the construction of an ice age playground with a gopher enclosure on the site of the old snow goat enclosure and the conversion of the ibex enclosure into a double enclosure for gemsboks and ibexes. These are modified measures from the Chemnitz Zoo 2030+ masterplan from Phase III, which are being brought forward due to enclosures that have been vacant for some time.
This will create additional attractions. However, the construction work will initially mean traffic restrictions: It is expected that paths in the zoo will be closed from Wednesday and for the entire duration of the construction work, thus interrupting the tour of the enclosure. From the end of the coati enclosure in the direction of the hoofed animals, it will no longer be possible to pass through.
The "ungulate mountain", i.e. the area of the deer, anoas, kulans, wild donkeys, bactrian camels and steppe foxes, can be reached via the path by the hyenas. Some paths have to be travelled twice.

Animal park: 9 am to 7 pm, last admission 6 pm
Game enclosure: 8 am to 6 pm, last admission 5 pm
