Start of construction of the Otto-Werner-Garten playground in the city park

After 20 years, the Otto-Werner-Garten playground in the city park is being renovated and refurbished. A new play and leisure facility will be created in the city park by the Chemnitz river. In co-operation with Ute Spindler, the City of Chemnitz's children's commissioner, the task and the planning were also discussed with the future users. The monument protection authorities were also involved. The new facility of around 400 square metres should be ready by Children's Day on 1 June 2020. The costs for the landscaping amount to 108,000 euros and 33,000 euros for the play equipment.

The playground will be a "pirate island shipwreck" with a combination of several play options and functions. The main play equipment will be suitable for sliding, climbing, balancing and hiding as well as role play. It is therefore a multifunctional play opportunity. Oak wood is used as the material for the play equipment.

The existing climbing route on the site will be dismantled and the boards and paving removed. The paths will be prepared in accordance with the specifications of the monument protection authorities. In addition, 40 cm thick fall protection gravel will be placed on the play area to cushion potential falls.

Landscape architect Ullrich Krüger from Dresden was commissioned with the planning. The work will be carried out by Landschaftsbau-Gruenbau Ltd. in Bad Schlema. Grasreiner Design from Dresden is responsible for the play equipment. The project is being subsidised by urban development funds.
