Start of construction of large gymnasium/ Official inauguration of small gymnasium
On Thursday, 28 March, construction of the large artificial gymnasium in the Sportforum will begin. To mark the start of construction, Mayor Barbara Ludwig will unveil the construction plaque together with representatives of the Federal Ministry and the State Ministry of the Interior at 2 pm. This will be followed by the opening of the small gymnastics hall with gymnasts and coach Gabi Frehse. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to these two events.
Keyword large gymnastics hall:
The large artistic gymnastics hall is a location for men's artistic gymnastics at the national centre for high-performance sport. This measure fulfils the increased international requirements for modern high-performance training. The renovation and extension of the hall will begin on 28 March. The previous area was 1,930 square metres and will now be extended to 3,470 square metres.
Keyword small gymnastics hall:
The official opening of the Kleine Kunstturnhalle marks the end of the eight-month construction period. The hall was also extended and refurbished. The wall between the throwing house and the gymnasium was demolished and moved in order to extend the gymnasium with a diving pit. The entire gymnasium was given a new insulated trapezoidal roof. The existing roof of the throwers' house was retained and resealed. The façade was completely renovated and fitted with thermal insulation. Electrical installations were also renewed.
The extended gymnasium was given a new, modern sports floor. The ceiling was fitted with radiant ceiling heating with integrated lighting and acoustic panels. The baffle walls were also renewed.
In total, over 7 million euros have been invested in the modernisation of the two halls, 4.2 million euros of which came from subsidies.
