Start of construction of cycle and footpath ramp at Pfortensteg
In the park between Falkeplatz and Pfortensteg, along the Kappelbach stream, a staircase near the playground in the direction of Pfortensteg is to be replaced by a cycle and footpath ramp. This will make this section barrier-free.
Preparations for the construction work, obtaining authorisations, structural planning and static calculations for the retaining walls have already begun. Subject to weather conditions, demolition work is due to start at the beginning of next week. The main construction work is scheduled to begin immediately afterwards and will essentially be completed by mid-May of this year. Remaining work on the road banks and landscaping work should be completed by the end of June 2018.
Starting from the remaining bridge structure, part of the existing staircase will be demolished and the new ramp constructed. The ramp extends over a total length of approx. 43 metres. Over a length of 20 metres (starting at the bridge), the new ramp will be bordered on both sides by concrete retaining walls with steel railings. The cycle and footpath in this section will be surfaced with asphalt. After this section, the path will be surfaced with a water-bound path surface, commonly known as gravel, which will be finished off on both sides with a row of large paving stones.
The construction work is being carried out by the company Günter Pompe GmbH from Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Czock Ingenieure Planungsgesellschaft mbH from Chemnitz, who also provided the planning services, was commissioned with the local construction supervision.
The total costs for planning and construction amount to 74,000 euros, 75 per cent of which is being funded by the federal and state governments as part of the Investment Strengthening Act.
