Start of construction in the Morgenleite pedestrian zone
Paths are being renovated and new benches installed
Construction work for the third construction phase in the Morgenleite pedestrian zone begins today, Thursday 24 February. As part of the "Urban Redevelopment East" programme, it is planned to renovate paths with around 510 square metres of concrete paving and slabs and to equip the area with four benches and two litter bins.
In addition, six trees and 500 square metres of small shrubs will be planted and a perennial area of 125 square metres will be created. The largely sealed path area is thus to be reduced and replaced by a spacious lawn area.
The work is being carried out by the company ATS Chemnitz Asphalt-, Tief- und Straßenbau GmbH. The total construction costs amount to around 200,000 euros. The measure is based on a corresponding resolution passed by the city council in 2018 to update the urban redevelopment concept for the "Stadtumbau Ost Chemnitz" and "Stadtumbaugebiet Magistralen Chemnitz" development areas.
