Start of construction for water feature on Jakobikirchplatz
Construction of the water feature on Jakobikirchplatz in the city centre starts today. Acceptance is planned for the end of April. The costs total 368,000 euros. The water feature in the form of a fountain field is to become a special attraction of the new promenade and recreational area on Innere Klosterstraße.
The approx. 5.50 x 8 metre fountain field made of natural stone slabs will be inserted at the same level as the front square so that the area can continue to be used flexibly for events such as the Christmas market. The ten loosely grouped fountain jets alternate rhythmically in height. This picks up on a trend towards making elements of urban design tangible for all the senses and transforming visitors themselves into actors, as the accessibility of the "fountain field" is particularly appealing to children. At the same time, the bubbling fountains also visually enrich the cityscape and should become a popular meeting place for young and old, especially for families with children.
At nightfall, the installation will be illuminated with LED lighting. To ensure that the visible part of the water feature functions smoothly, pumps and control systems will be installed in an underground technical shaft. To do this, pipes have to be rerouted and concrete foundations from the GDR era removed.
The work is being carried out by PE Pflasterbau GmbH & Co KG with expert subcontractors for the water technology and pump shaft. The Kretzschmar & Partner office from Dresden, which also provided the planning services, was commissioned with the local construction supervision.
