Start of construction for ring bus route 82 (east)
Barrier-free expansion of twelve bus stops
On Monday, 14 October 2019, extensive civil engineering and road construction work will begin on the Ringbus route 82, with a further twelve stops being converted and extended to make them barrier-free by June 2020. The construction work will take place in Ostring. The barrier-free expansion of the stops on the Westring was completed in 2018.
The planned conversion work will make it easier for people with limited mobility to board public transport buses in future. In the coming months, new boarding systems will be installed at selected stops throughout the city and tactile elements will be integrated into the pavements. CVAG and the city of Chemnitz are also equipping all stops with digital passenger information displays. Passenger shelters are also being installed at most stops.
The bus stops on Wartburgstraße will be remodelled first by the end of the year. Further restrictions and diversions must be expected at the Bernsdorfer Straße/Wartburgstraße junction.
Firstly, Wartburgstraße will be fully closed between Vettersstraße and Bernsdorfer Straße. The diversion will be via Augsburger Straße. Once the bus stop has been completed, Wartburgstraße will be closed on one side between Zschopauer Straße and Bernsdorfer Straße. Traffic in the direction of Bernsdorfer Straße will then be routed via Gutenbergstraße. Temporary arrangements will be made for passengers travelling on the Ringbus route as well as for local residents and pedestrians during the construction work.
The other construction sites on the ring bus route 82 on Müllerstraße (Wilhelm-Külz-Platz stop), Wartburgstraße (Lindenhof stop), Clausstraße (Uferstraße stop) and Zietenstraße (Humboldtstraße stop) and at the Fürstenstraße junction will be covered by the underground railway. At the Fürstenstraße junction, the civil engineering office will be informed in good time before construction work begins in spring 2020.
The work will be carried out by Asphalt-Bau Chemnitz ABC Tief- und Straßenbau GmbH from Bernsdorf. Construction costs totalling 990,000 euros have been estimated for the planned bus stop conversion. The Free State of Saxony is supporting this project with around 400,000 euros as part of its subsidisation of local public transport.
