Start of construction for civil engineering, hydraulic engineering and traffic engineering measures

At its meeting today, the city council decided to carry out the following construction measures.

Replacement construction of the Klaffenbacher Straße bank retaining wall to Würschnitz in Chemnitz/Harthau

Due to the damage to the structure and the significant increase in traffic, the bank retaining wall on Klaffenbacher Straße in Harthau is to be replaced. It is planned to cover the wall with a new reinforced concrete retaining wall (39.05 m). The pavement in the construction area will also be renewed. A filler bar railing is to be installed on the bank retaining wall. Construction will take seven months from April to October 2019. The total costs amount to around 670,000 euros.

Replacement construction of the bank retaining wall on Fabrikstraße to Chemnitz

Now that the current replacement construction of the embankment wall on the Chemnitz in the area from Hartmannbrücke to approx. 20 metres before the pedestrian bridge between Luxor and Diebels has been completed, the opposite embankment wall on Fabrikstraße (88.31 m) is to be renewed from April to November 2019. In addition to the age of the wall (built in 1870), it has been further damaged by recent flooding. There are already breakouts in the bank wall, joints have been washed out and the masonry has loosened. The wall could collapse in the event of another flood. It is planned to install a heavyweight wall as a retaining wall. The pavement will also be renewed in this area. A railing will also be installed. The total costs amount to around 830,000 euros.

Replacement construction of the bridge over the Pleißenbach opposite Hotel Röhrsdorfer Hof

The current structure is a 28-metre-long vaulted concrete bridge. The structure shows signs of damage, particularly at the inlet and outlet areas. In addition, the drainage cross-section is too small, resulting in flooding of neighbouring properties during high water. A prefabricated solution was favoured for the new replacement. This offers considerable advantages. Among other things, the construction time is reduced and the installation can be carried out depending on the weather. Due to the footpath running directly along the water's edge, the construction of bank retaining walls is necessary here. In addition, the footpath in this area will be renewed and a railing erected. The costs amount to around 304,000 euros. Construction is scheduled to start at the end of April and end at the end of November 2018.
