Start of construction for basketball court in Konkordiapark
New construction of the pitch in accordance with FIBA specifications
On Monday, 10 June, work begins on the construction of a new basketball court in Konkordiapark. The new court will be built in accordance with the requirements of the FIBA, the world basketball association, so that international tournaments can also be organised. The existing court will be moved slightly, renovated and given a synthetic surface.
The construction work will begin on Monday, immediately after the KOSMOS Festival on 8 June, which will also take place in Konkordiapark. In order to connect the two play areas with each other and with the existing path structures, a paved area is planned, which will be interrupted by two large raised beds. These will be attractively planted with shady shrubs and other plants and will invite people to sit and linger.
In addition to the two competition-standard hoops on the new main pitch, a total of six new basketball hoops are planned for the existing pitch. A three-tiered grandstand will also be erected.
In order to be able to use both courts - like other games in Konkordiapark - even in poor lighting conditions or for an evening tournament, for example, a floodlight mast is planned for each court. The pitch will also be equipped with a drinking fountain, bicycle racks, two additional benches in the area of the existing pitch and litter bins.
The work is being carried out by the construction company Phönix-Bau GmbH from Aue. Construction supervision is being carried out by sLandArt Stefan Leiste Landschaftsarchitektur bdla, Chemnitz.
Completion is planned for the end of the year. The construction costs amount to around 825,000 euros.
The project is being subsidised by the Saxon State Ministry of Science and the Arts. This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament.
