Start of construction for barrier-free conversion of Flemmingstraße bus turning point

Replacement stops in Flemmingstraße and Rudolf-Krahl-Straße during renovation work/temporary full closure of access roads necessary

Construction work for the barrier-free conversion of the Flemmingstraße/Rudolf-Krahl-Straße junction and the bus turning loop for bus routes 31 and 62 will begin on Wednesday (24 October), according to information from the city's civil engineering department. As part of the construction work, the bus stop areas will be rebuilt and equipped with tactile indicators to assist blind and visually impaired passengers and passers-by in particular.

In addition, a new traffic light system will be installed on site so that pedestrians can cross Flemmingstraße safely in the area between the turning loop and the shopping centre. The other crossing points on Flemmingstraße and Rudolf-Krahl-Straße will be equipped with so-called crossing kerbs, which will be lowered to three centimetres and fitted with granite paving strips.

Faber Bau GmbH from Drebach has been commissioned with the realisation of the construction measures at a cost of approx. 145,000 euros.

Information for road users: Road users please note that the Steinwiese and Flemmingstraße West access roads will have to be fully closed at times depending on the construction phases - completion of the construction work is scheduled for 30 November 2012. Diversions will be signposted in each case. The turning of buses via the turning loop will also be guaranteed during the construction work. During the reconstruction of the bus stop areas, replacement bus stops will be set up in Flemmingstraße and Rudolf-Krahl-Straße for boarding and alighting.
