Start of construction for Augustusburger Straße/Theresenstraße junction
Major expansion with construction of a traffic light system by the end of December
On Tuesday, 19 July, construction work will begin on the major expansion of the Augustusburger Straße/Theresenstraße junction. The new junction will be equipped with a stationary traffic light system.
Theresenstraße will be fully closed to traffic during the works, which are expected to last until the end of December 2022. Residents and emergency vehicles can use the areas belonging to Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz GmbH. Traffic on Augustusburger Straße will be guided past the construction site with one lane each according to the alternating construction phases. For pedestrians and cyclists, temporary paths will be created on both sides of the construction site.
The aim of the extension is to connect the building complexes currently under construction in the "Neue Johannisvorstadt" to Augustusburger Straße. The cycle paths along Augustusburger Strasse between Bahnhofstrasse and Zieschestrasse will also be reorganised.
On behalf of eins energie, numerous media for drinking water, district heating, electricity and communications are also being relocated and newly laid. New street lighting will then be put into operation.
A permanent carriageway between the tracks has already been constructed in advance on behalf of CVAG. This crossing will be followed by the ground-level expansion of Theresenstrasse, which will be realised over a length of around 55 metres in a northerly direction up to the edge of building no. 26/28.
The pavements, cycle paths and parking spaces along Augustusburger Straße will be adapted to accommodate the new junction.
Numerous road markings will have to be renewed due to the expansion of the junction. As a result, around 90 metres of the already damaged asphalt surface on Augustusburger Straße will be repaired. The measure also includes the construction of a crossing point for pedestrians.
