Start of construction: expansion of two bus stops and new construction of two crossing aids on Frankenberger Straße

Thanks to the mild spring weather, the civil engineering department is now starting a construction project on Frankenberger Straße ahead of schedule to realise measures to improve road safety. In the section between Eichendorffstrasse and Mittweidaer Strasse, two crossing aids in the form of a central island and pedestrian traffic lights will be installed on Frankenberger Strasse and two bus stops will be upgraded. At the same time, the existing pavement will be renewed and extended over a length of approx. 80 metres.

Road users please note the information from the traffic authority (roadworks information dated 06/03/2014): Due to the construction work, Frankenberger Straße can only be travelled on one side with traffic lights in the construction area between Eichendorffstraße and Mittweidaer Straße.

The reason for the extensive construction work is that there is a pronounced need for pedestrians to cross the busy road in this section of Frankenberger Straße. This is due to access to the public transport stops and use as a school route as well as the concentration of retail, service and commercial facilities on Mittweidaer Straße and the location of a supermarket on Frankenberger Straße. As the pavements are not fully in place and the bus stops do not meet the requirements for mobility-impaired citizens, the measure now being realised on the busy Frankenberger Straße will create safe footpath connections, especially for school routes, and barrier-free bus stops.

The construction work is expected to continue until the 20th calendar week (mid-May).

The company HSE-BAU GmbH from Glauchau was commissioned to carry out the construction work following a public tender.

The construction costs amount to around 160,000 euros. The project is being subsidised by the Free State of Saxony to the tune of 95,000 euros.
