Start of civil engineering and road construction work for additional turning lane into Hartmannstraße between Bergstraße and Leipziger Straße
On Monday, 1 December 2014, civil engineering and road construction work will begin on Hartmannstraße in the section between Bergstraße and Leipziger Straße on behalf of the city's civil engineering department. This will mark the start of the announced construction of an additional right-turn lane on Hartmannstraße between Bergstraße and Leipziger Straße in the landward direction. This additional third landward lane and the possible separation of left-turning, straight-ahead and right-turning traffic will increase the capacity of the junction on Leipziger Straße in future. The new lane will be positioned in the area of the existing pavement and will be 80 metres long. The transition area from two to three landward lanes is 35 metres, so that the expansion measure extends to a total of 115 metres.
In addition to the new lane, the footpath will also be newly built with a future width of 2.50 metres. The pavement will be paved with granite slabs, similar to the existing pavement, which will be supplemented with small granite paving in the connecting areas. All lanes leading inland will have a width of 3.25 metres. The Konkordiastrasse will be tied off from the Hartmannstrasse during this measure and will only have a crossing for construction vehicles.
In December 2014, the new pavement will be built first - without interfering with Hartmannstrasse. From January to March 2015, the Hartmannstraße right-turn lane and the guidance systems for the blind at the pedestrian fords of the Leipziger Straße, Hartmannstraße and Reichsstraße junctions will be built. Due to the cramped conditions on site and the traffic dependencies in the Leipziger Straße / Hartmannstraße junction area, this will take place in three construction phases. The city will provide information about the different traffic routes and diversions in good time. The traffic lights at the Leipziger Straße / Hartmannstraße / Limbacher Straße / Reichsstraße junction will be renewed immediately after the construction work.
The total construction costs amount to approx. 160,000 euros. The project is being subsidised by the Free State of Saxony to the tune of 75 percent as part of the municipal road and bridge construction programme. The company STRABAG AG from Wilkau-Haßlau was commissioned with the realisation.
