Start of civil engineering and road construction work

Complex civil engineering measures in "Thüringer Weg" and "Am Wartburghof"

On Monday, 8 October 2018, extensive civil engineering and road construction work will begin on "Am Wartburghof" and "Thüringer Weg".

As part of the joint construction project between the City of Chemnitz, the waste disposal company ESC and the utility company eins, new drainage pipes will be laid, repairs will be carried out on the drinking water and gas network and the roads and pavements will be upgraded.

On behalf of the waste disposal company, approx. 350 metres of combined sewers with nominal diameters of DN 400 to DN 600 are being laid in open trenches and the house connection sewers are being renewed. The supplier eins is renewing the drinking water pipeline and the gas pipeline. Replacement pipes will be laid to maintain the supply of drinking water and gas during the construction work.

Temporary restrictions are possible when replacing the house connections for drinking water/gas. In these cases, the affected subscribers will be informed by the supplier in good time.

Once the pipework has been laid, the roads and pavements will be thoroughly upgraded over a length of approx. 350 metres on behalf of the civil engineering department. The existing paved surface will be replaced by an asphalt pavement. In addition to the carriageway, permanent longitudinal parking spaces will be created in the area of the development. The carriageway "Am Wartburghof" will be widened from the current three metres to approx. 5.50 metres. This widening of the residential road will enable two-way traffic in the future. Alongside the carriageways, footpaths with new lighting will be installed on both sides.

The work will be carried out in sections and the individual sections will be fully closed. Pedestrian traffic will be guided safely through the construction site.

In the first construction phase, the carriageway "Am Wartburghof" between Wartburgstraße and "Thüringer Weg" will initially be fully closed. For this period, the previous one-way traffic regulation with parallel parking spaces on Thüringer Weg will remain in force. The exit will be at the end of Thüringer Weg pointing left towards Reichenhainer Straße.

The 2nd construction phase "Thüringer Weg" between the campus and Wartburghof is expected to be fully closed from April 2019. The completed carriageway "Am Wartburghof" will be signposted as a "dead end" and opened to two-way traffic. During this period, temporary residents' parking spaces will be made available along Wartburgstraße.

As the cables are to be connected in the Wartburgstraße area, road users must also expect temporary restrictions on Wartburgstraße.

The overall project has a cost volume of 1.35 million euros. Completion is planned for October 2019. Strabag AG, Saxony/Thuringia Directorate from Wilkau-Haßlau, was commissioned with the construction work.
