Start of building construction measures decided

At its meeting today, the City Council decided to carry out the following building construction measures.

Town hall/renovation of fire extinguishing pipe
The renovation of the fire mains is necessary for fire safety reasons. It is to be converted from a wet galvanised fire extinguishing pipe to a dry riser pipe. The costs amount to around 500,000 euros. Construction is scheduled to start at the beginning of April 2018 and end in February 2019.

Valentina Tereshkova primary school/renovation of the schoolyard
The school was refurbished in 2014 to improve fire safety and energy efficiency. The schoolyard is now to follow. The school and its grounds are a listed building. However, as the old design is not known or recognisable, the monument protection authority has approved a new design. For example, in addition to a streetball field, a painting wall and a "Huppekästel" made of colourful paving slabs, the courtyard will also be paved in different ways. The changes will offer schoolchildren a variety of uses during the school day and in their free time. The costs amount to around 310,000 euros. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2018 and end in August 2018.

Janusz Korczak School/complete refurbishment
Apart from the roof refurbishment carried out in 2010, the building is in a condition almost as it was when it was built. A complete refurbishment of the school is necessary. There are many deficiencies in terms of functionality, fire protection and accessibility, which are particularly detrimental to the special use of the facility as a school for the mentally disabled.

Taking into account the conditions resulting from the special requirements of teaching, the following refurbishment measures are necessary: Carrying out a façade refurbishment with reinforcement of the thermal envelope (thermal insulation composite system, window and door renewal, building refurbishment). The renovation measures required include: the renovation of the façade with reinforcement of the thermal envelope (thermal insulation composite system, window and door renewal, building drying), complete renewal of the building services including the sanitary facilities with their reorganisation and improvement of the room layouts for the requirements resulting from the type of school; creation of barrier-free accessibility, improvement of the functional allocation of rooms as far as possible due to the existing building.The costs for the refurbishment of the building include the following: creation of accessibility, improvement of the functional allocation of rooms where possible due to existing conditions, implementation of the fire protection and evacuation concept in accordance with SächsBO with retrofitting of a second structural escape route (stairwell), renovation of the interior doors, floor coverings, wall coatings and improvement of the room acoustics.

The costs amount to 3.6 million euros, of which 2.3 million euros will be subsidised by the Saxon Investment Strengthening Act (Sächsisches Investitionskraftstärkungsgesetz). The funding decision was handed over to the city of Chemnitz by the SMUL this morning. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2018 and end in June 2020.

Am Hang 22 daycare centre/renovation and extension including outdoor facilities
The building is to be renovated and extended with the aim of integrating more children into the centre in the future. Among other things, the following staff rooms will be available after the extension: Changing room with toilet and lounge area, manager's room, changing room and sanitary area for kitchen staff. The following children's rooms will be created: four group rooms, a separate baby sleeping room, sanitary rooms with toilet and washbasin, sanitary area for babies, creative room and cloakrooms. There will also be a kitchen and areas for caretakers as well as a barrier-free toilet. The outdoor facilities will also be upgraded, including short-term parking spaces for parents, a log cabin for outdoor play equipment, a paved scooter track, a sandpit, a climbing frame and a swing. There will also be barrier-free access. The costs amount to around 1.75 million euros, of which 921,000 euros are subsidised by the Saxon Investment Strengthening Act (Sächsisches Investitionskraftstärkungsgesetz Budget "Bund"). Completion and handover of the building is scheduled for July 2019.
