StadtWohnen agency as a good example of how to deal with old buildings
In July 2017, the StadtWohnen Chemnitz agency was one of 97 projects from across the European Union to receive the "URBACT Good Practice" award as a good practice example for the revitalisation of Wilhelminian-style apartment buildings in Chemnitz.
This award was the basis for the application to manage a transfer network in the EU's URBACT III programme, which has now been approved for the second phase. This means that experience will be transferred from Chemnitz to the twin cities of Constanta/Romania, Riga/Latvia, Rybnik/Poland, Seraing/Belgium, Turin/Italy and Vilafranca del Penedès/Spain. At the same time, the City of Chemnitz can also use the StadtWohnen agency to gain ideas on how to deal with the refurbishment of old buildings in the partner cities and thus develop further.
As one of 23 transfer networks in Europe, ALT/BAU will contribute to sustainable urban development in the European Union with its work from December 2018 to December 2020. Following a kick-off meeting in Chemnitz in September 2018, meetings with the partners are planned for December 2019 and 2020 for interim and evaluation purposes in Chemnitz.
The City of Chemnitz will receive 262,140 euros in funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the entire duration of the project.
