Stadtsportbund and VTB Chemnitz receive extensive financial support from the city budget
Around 637,000 euros for groundsmen, coaches and youth sports work, 100,000 euros for construction and renovation work in the club sports hall in Guerickestraße
At its regular meeting yesterday, the Culture and Sports Committee approved the administration's proposals for sports funding for the Chemnitz City Sports Association and the VTB Chemnitz association (B-071/2014), thus giving the green light for the extensive financial resources to be made available from the city budget. In 2014, the city will provide grants totalling EUR 636,324 to the Stadtsportbund Chemnitz e. V. for the groundsman project (EUR 200,465), the trainer project (EUR 307,560) and youth sports work (EUR 128,000).299 euros) and 100,000 euros to VTB Chemnitz e. V. for the first construction phase of the further construction and renovation work planned for the Guerickestraße club sports hall by 2015.
The municipal funding provides significant support for the deployment of groundsmen, which is essential for the operation of club sports facilities in terms of personnel costs. Twelve groundsmen are currently permanently employed by the city sports association, primarily to maintain the large club-run sports facilities. The city can also continue to finance the coaching positions in basic and advanced training in the Olympic sports that have been in place since 2009: The coaches work in the sports of artistic gymnastics (male and female), cycling, boxing, weightlifting, basketball, water polo, swimming, speed skating, figure skating and athletics. Part three of the approved sports funding to the City Sports Association supports youth sports work in accordance with the City of Chemnitz's sports funding guidelines. Five employees work for the project at the city sports association, and the city funds are also used to finance the ongoing operating and material costs at the Fürstenstrasse and Helbersdorfer Strasse centres.
The sports funding of 100,000 euros from the city budget for the VTB Chemnitz e. V. association, which was approved by the committee yesterday, is still subject to the approval of funding from the Sächsische Aufbaubank. The city funds will be used for the first construction phase of the interior work on the sports hall on Guerickestraße, which has been operated by the association since 1996. The main focus of the construction and refurbishment work is the rebuilding of the hall floor, including the installation of a new heating system (from the ceiling into the floor), a new boiler and a new electrical system.
VTB Chemnitz has already carried out extensive refurbishment work as part of the special funding programme since 2007; the exterior refurbishment work and the extension have essentially been completed. The refurbishment of the sports centre is to be completed by 2015 with two interior construction phases.
VTB Chemnitz e. V. has been in existence for 65 years and is one of the largest sports clubs in Chemnitz today. The profile of VTB Chemnitz e. V. today includes nine sections: Aerobics, children's gymnastics, handball, volleyball, football, weight training, gymnastics, billiards, badminton and car modelling. With the two sports facilities Guerickestraße - sports hall and sports field - and the Harthweg sports field, the association has two club facilities in the immediate neighbourhood with a direct impact on sporting leisure activities in Schönau.
