Stadium remodelling still on schedule
City reports to the Planning, Building and Environment Committee
The complete remodelling of the stadium on Gellertstraße is still on schedule. The city administration informed the Planning, Construction and Environment Committee about this today as scheduled.
The partial demolition of the railway depot next to the stadium is well advanced. The south stand of the stadium has already been completely demolished. The dismantling of the north stand is in its final stages. Partial building permits have now been issued for the dismantling of the West Stand section, for measures to ensure escape and rescue routes and for tree felling work. Partial building permits have been applied for for the foundation work for the north and south stands. The final documents for the overall building permit are currently being revised and subsequently submitted by the general contractor.
The costs to date amount to around EUR 2.7 million. In addition to the costs reported in the previous committees, these include the ancillary construction costs to date, further advance payments, including for the partial demolition of the former railway depot, the dismantling of the south and north stands and the construction of temporary entrances to the stadium.
The rest of the process: Once the north stand is back in operation after construction, the south stand will be completed. At the same time, the main stand will be demolished. Once the South Stand has been opened to spectators, the East Stand will be demolished and the Main Stand will be completed. When the side main stand goes into operation, the east stand and the business stand, which is the last to be put into operation, are extended. As the new stadium gradually takes shape, 10,000 spectators can be seated at each match.
Keyword stadium
The remodelling of the stadium on Gellertstraße is to take place without interrupting match operations and with a maximum budget of 25 million euros. A modern arena with 15,000 seats is planned, of which around 9,000 will be seated and 6,000 standing, including a family block and barrier-free seats. The client is the city of Chemnitz.
