Stadium remodelling on schedule
Mayor Ludwig reports on the project status - Kick-off for the stadium: Demolition of the south stand begins on 23 January with a symbolic start to construction
One day before the farewell match of the old stadium on Gellertstraße, in which Chemnitzer FC will play against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig informed the Planning, Building and Environment Committee about the project status as scheduled. The complete remodelling of the stadium is on schedule.
The general contractor, BAM/BAM Sports GmbH, submitted the building application on 20 December, which is currently being processed. The demolition of the former railway depot on Heinrich-Schütz-Straße is expected to begin at the end of January, for which preparations have been underway since November. Work has also been underway inside the former go-kart hall since the beginning of December.
The symbolic start of construction work on the south stand is scheduled for 23 January at 3 pm. Demolition of the south stand will begin in the fourth and fifth calendar week.
Mayor Ludwig also provided information on the expected construction schedule during ongoing match operations according to the current planning status: Work will begin with the demolition of the south and north stands. Once the north stand is back in operation after construction, the south stand will be completed. At the same time, the main stand will be demolished. Once the South Stand has been completed, the East Stand will be demolished and the Main Stand will be completed. When the lateral main stand goes into operation, the east stand and the business stand, which is the last to be put into operation, are extended.
The costs to date amount to around EUR 1.5 million (as at 10 January 2014). These include both the known ancillary construction costs (including preliminary work by GGG and consultancy costs) and the first invoice for planning and preparing the demolition.
Keyword stadium
The remodelling of the stadium on Gellertstraße is to be carried out without interrupting match operations and with a maximum budget of €25 million. A modern arena with 15,000 seats is planned, of which approx. 9,000 seats and 6,000 standing places, including a family block and barrier-free seats. The client is the city of Chemnitz.
