Stadium on Gellertstraße: Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig provides information on the project status
The award procedure for the remodelling of the stadium on Gellertstraße is on schedule. Mayor Barbara Ludwig provided information on the project status at the Planning, Construction and Environment Committee on Tuesday afternoon. The progress of the construction project is presented here every two months in accordance with the city council resolution.
Construction preparation
The listed building licence for the demolition of the go-kart hall has been granted. Its operator has found a new domicile in Röhrsdorf with the support of the administration.
The necessary contracts for land reorganisation and heritable building rights are ready to be signed and will be notarised in the coming weeks.
Selection of the general contractor
The first stage of the tendering process to select the general contractor was completed with the dispatch of the documents at the end of last year. The bidders are currently working on their offers. The second stage of the negotiation procedure is due to be completed in May, so that the general contractor is expected to be awarded the contract in June. A jury selected by the city council last year is overseeing the process.
Finances
The tax office has issued binding information that the city is entitled to deduct input tax as the client. The budget of 25 million earmarked for the stadium remodelling is therefore available for the project.
It was also informed that services totalling around 924,000 euros have been provided to date. This includes, for example, ground investigations, the concept study, the plausibility check, the master planning, the functional specification of services, project coordination during the award process and legal and tax advice.

The city took over the client function last autumn after the state directorate did not approve the planned construction with the housing company GGG as the client. As a result, the contractual structures had to be adjusted by a city council resolution in November 2012 and the tender to select a general contractor had to be repeated. In addition, a supplementary budget had to be approved in order to include the loan of EUR 25 million required for the remodelling in the 2013 and 2014 budgets. Due to these decisions and the necessary approvals, the project duration was extended by around three to four months.
The remodelling of the stadium on Gellertstraße is to take place without interrupting match operations. A modern arena with 15,000 seats is planned, including approx. 9,000 seats and 6,000 standing places as well as a family block.
