St. Arno's cross is being restored and the surrounding area upgraded
Construction work in the Klaffenbach district begins after Easter
On Tuesday, 2 April, work will begin on redesigning the area around the St. Arno cross in Klaffenbach. The so-called "Atonement Cross" itself will be restored. In addition, the steps around the cross will be renewed and roses planted. The dense growth of trees was already thinned out in winter.
The St. Arno cross in Chemnitz-Klaffenbach stands rather inconspicuously on a slope near the Klaffenbach primary school. However, the story behind the "Atonement Cross" is also of supra-regional significance. The surrounding area is now being upgraded so that the St. Arno cross is better recognised and becomes more prominent in the public consciousness. The local council and the Chemnitz History Society provided the impetus for the redesign. The latter also designed and financed an information board that will provide information about the history in future.
The costs for this measure amount to around 28,000 euros and are being realised by the construction company Reino GmbH.
