Spring planting in the urban green 2017

Photo opportunity: on 28 March, 10 a.m. in the Park am Roten Turm

In spring, numerous plants will once again bloom in the flower beds in the city centre on a total of 875 square metres of public green space and contribute to a colourful cityscape.

The employees of the Chemnitz Parks Department planted 8,220 flower bulbs in the city last autumn. The total number of bulbs is made up of the following species: 4,050 daffodils, 1,500 grape hyacinths, 1,400 tulips, 550 crocuses, 500 snow pride and 120 chequerboard flowers

In addition to the bulbs planted in autumn, 14,100 spring-flowering bulbs will be added.
This year, that's 11,000 pansies, 1,600 snowdrops and 1,500 forget-me-nots, which cost around 4,100 euros in total. They are supplied by the specialised company: W. Willkomm GbR, Berthold-Haupt-Str. 15, 01257 Dresden.

The spring bloomers can then be found mainly in the park by the Red Tower.

The spring planting starts with the preparation of the beds on Monday 27 March. Planting will then begin on Tuesday 28 March.

Note for photographers: There will be an opportunity to take photos of the planting work in the Park am Roten Turm at around 10 am.
