Spring planting in the city green 2019
Photo opportunity: on 3 April, 1 p.m. in the Park am Roten Turm
In spring, numerous plants will once again bloom in the flowerbeds in the city centre on a total of 875 square metres of public green space and contribute to a colourful cityscape.
The employees of the Chemnitz Parks Department planted 16,850 flower bulbs in the city last autumn. The total number of bulbs is made up of the following species: 6,200 crocuses, 300 daffodils, 7,250 tulips, 1,400 grape hyacinths, 200 snowdrops and 1,500 snowdrops.
In addition to the bulbs planted in autumn, 12,000 spring-flowering bulbs will be added.
This year, that means 11,000 pansies, 600 primroses and 400 horned violets. The cost is around 3,400 euros. They are supplied by the specialised company W. Willkomm GbR, Dresden.
Together with 6,250 tulips, the above-mentioned pansies will then bloom in the park by the Red Tower. The castle square is adorned with 1,000 tulips, 1,400 grape hyacinths as well as the aforementioned 600 primroses and 400 horned violets.
