Following the first marketplace for culture and schools in Saxony, which celebrated its premiere in Chemnitz in November 2015, the jury of the city's Office for Cultural Management awarded two sponsorship prizes from among nine projects submitted in the field of cultural education. The main prize of 500.00 euros went to the project "Wir machen Zirkus - und das richtig!" ("We do circus - the right way!") by the Altchemnitz School for Learning Support and the Pyrocatharsis e. V. association. An additional special prize was awarded to the project "Many languages, one world - Hörspektakel" by the secondary school "Am Flughafen" and Radio T e. V. From the perspective of the City of Chemnitz's cultural organisation, the first Culture and Schools Marketplace has proven to be an important instrument for strengthening cultural education in Chemnitz.

The circus project planned for 2016 is intended to enable pupils to discover and better perceive their own body, mind and soul in a vivid, playful and aesthetic way. The children and young people at the Altchemnitz learning support school require targeted and individualised educational support in order to successfully master learning processes. Through circus arts and with the help of Pyrocatharsis e. V., they are to be encouraged in a playful way.

The radio project that won the special prize is a supplement to school lessons. The project team aims to develop an audio spectacle through the playful use of language and (local) culture, which will be broadcast on Radio T. The special prize was also awarded by the jury to give children and young people with a migration background the opportunity to help shape culture.

The jury met on 3 December 2015 and its members are Heike Paul, representative of the Chemnitz Regional Office of the Saxon Education Agency; Dr Yvonne Schütze, Head of the Culture Department at the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre; and Chemnitz artist and lecturer Michael-Paul Milow.

The projects are the result of the first Culture and Schools Marketplace in Saxony, which took place in November at Kraftwerk e. V. and was organised by the Office for Urban Cultural Management. The marketplace was attended by 76 participants from schools and cultural organisations. 21 schools and 30 cultural institutions were represented in order to present their own offers and requests for co-operation.

Among the guests, Katrin Voigt, Head of the Office for Municipal Cultural Management, welcomed the Head of the Department for Cultural Education/Cultural Spaces at the Saxon State Ministry of Science and the Arts, Dr Tatjana Frey, the project manager for the project. Tatjana Frey, the project manager of the educational initiative Kinder zum Olymp! of the Kulturstiftung der Länder Dr Margarete Schweizer and the representative of the Sächsische Bildungsagentur Regionalstelle Chemnitz Heike Paul.

During a cultural speed dating session in the first part of the event, educators were able to get to know associations and representatives from the worlds of art and culture. In the second part of the event, the educators returned to the cultural providers with whom they wanted to enter into a co-operation and initiate a joint project. This resulted in nine project outlines that were nominated for the sponsorship award.

The positive feedback on the Culture and Schools Marketplace and the already planned repetition next year reflect the desire for networking in the field of cultural education.
