Sponsors wanted for trees

Official tree sponsorships are now being launched under the motto "My tree for Chemnitz".

Due to the severe drought in 2018, many trees suffered and some died. It was only with the help and initiative of citizens, companies, the fire brigade and the Parks Department itself that trees could be saved by watering them. Some committed people have already volunteered to ensure that "their" tree in front of the house is doing better. The tree discs are regularly maintained and younger trees are watered when necessary, the soil around them is loosened or even planted with flowers.

More initiatives like this should take place, which is why the city of Chemnitz is promoting the idea of "tree sponsorships". The adoption of a tree sponsorship is documented with a certificate and describes the activities of a tree sponsor, such as watering young trees, loosening the soil, planting the tree discs and, in particular, monitoring the trees for damage or impairment.

Tree pruning and fertilisation are still carried out by the Parks Department. In order to ensure that Chemnitz's green lung continues to breathe, a fundraising campaign is to be launched under the motto "My tree for Chemnitz". The aim is to give Chemnitz residents the opportunity to make their own contribution to improving the quality of life in their city.

Although Chemnitz is an extremely green city, there are a large number of empty tree discs along the streets of Chemnitz that are waiting to be replanted. This is where the focus of tree planting should lie in future. Planting a tree in the street currently costs around 2,000 euros. In addition to the planting, this also includes the maintenance costs. You can contribute to these costs with a financial donation of 20 euros or more. For donations of 250 euros or more, a sign with details of the donor can also be placed near the tree if desired and a donation certificate can be issued with your personalised text. Subject to their consent, it is planned to publish a "thank you" from the City of Chemnitz twice a year in the official gazette, mentioning the donors by name.
