On Monday, 20 April, construction work will begin on the southern section of the Riedbachtal green corridor. The second construction phase will be realised between Unritzstraße and Riedbach, which is intended to sustainably improve the quality of stay for citizens as well as local species protection.
Some of the paths will be laid out as a water-bound path surface and as a gravel turf path. The Riedbach stream will be ecologically restored, i.e. the previous, approx. ten metre long, damaged pipework will be replaced by a modern culvert that is shorter (approx. seven metres long) and more open. This construction is designed to allow amphibians safe passage.
While the culvert is due to be completed by the end of July 2026, the overall construction period will extend into late autumn. Extensive planting work will be completed in November, during which 27 trees and 130 shrubs will be planted.
The total costs (excluding planning) amount to around 315,000 euros and will be financed from development contributions and the city's own funds.
The company Steinbach und Richter, Oberlichtenau, was commissioned with the gardening and landscaping work. The company Bergsicherung Schneeberg GmbH & Co KG is building the culvert. The company Architektur Concept Staudte Freiraumplanung+Städtebau, Zwickau, is supervising the construction work.
