Municipal music school: Intercultural music camp and concert experiment

Last weekend, from 14 to 16 October, an intercultural music camp took place at the Chemnitz Municipal Music School in cooperation with the Chemnitz Music Association.

During the workshop weekend, 26 young musicians learnt about music and language from all over the world. The instructors were Magda Roznicka from Poland, Emi Suzuki from Japan, Arba Manillah from Tanzania, Pouriya Ataei from Iran, Juston Suárez from Cuba and the German instructors, Andreas Winkler, Caren Raßbach and Janis Neteler.

The intercultural theme also extended to the culinary side of the weekend with dishes from Yemen, Italy and China provided by local restaurateurs.

The weekend concluded with a "concert experiment" on Sunday afternoon with combinations of string ensemble, drums and singing, in which the audience was invited to join in. Music from Africa, the Caribbean, Japan, Norway and the Ukraine was played.

The workshop was funded by the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz.
