Sophie Scheder calls for the European Week of Sport
Various offers from family fun sports festivals to Viking chess and a hands-on circus
Sophie Scheder, artistic gymnast from Chemnitz and bronze medallist at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, is an ambassador for the European Week of Sport. Sport and exercise will be promoted across Europe from 23 to 30 September 2018 .
In Chemnitz, the programme is aimed in particular at families to encourage them to enjoy joint activities. For example, the Don Bosco House is organising "Sports relay games for families", "Viking chess for families" and "Street games for families". The multi-generation centre drums up "Family Beats" with Drums Alive. In the Bunte Gärten, the Sonnenberg district management organises a "family fun sports festival" with Nachhall e. V. and the AJZ.
For the first time, employees of the city administration start a "moving lunch break" and go Nordic walking together around the castle pond. At the end of the week, Ute Spindler, Children and Youth Officer for the City of Chemnitz, together with the Local Alliance for Families in Chemnitz (Lobü-C) and other stakeholders, is organising a walking event with sporting exercises in the Küchwald forest. Under the heading "Chemnitz families on the move", families with children up to the age of ten can discover the Küchwald and set off on an activity trail. The prize is a ride on the park railway.
The Chemnitz programme is rounded off with dance workshops, fitness activities, a hands-on circus and archery. The exact dates can be found in the attached event flyer.
#BeActive - Families on the Move is the motto of the European Week of Sport 2018 from 23 to 30 September 2018. Chemnitz is taking part in the action week for the third time this year.
