Solar roof cadastre for Chemnitz starts
As of today, a solar roof register is available to the citizens of Chemnitz. This register enables homeowners to find out whether their house is suitable for solar energy utilisation. The use of solar energy is a contribution to climate protection and a way of counteracting rising energy costs.
For the solar roof register, the solar potential of Chemnitz's roof surfaces was analysed on the basis of laser scanner data. The high-resolution data shows which roof surfaces are generally suitable for generating solar power and solar heat.
The city of Chemnitz's solar cadastre provides an orientation map of the city or, at greater depth, aerial photographs. For all buildings for which the solar potential has been calculated, the basic information is given in the form of a coloured area for solar suitability. Every owner has the right to object to the publication of this generalised calculation result. These calculation results are then not displayed in the solar cadastre.
Around 115,000 roofs in the city of Chemnitz were included in the calculation. The result is a potential output of around 653,000 kWp on well over 4 million m² of potential photovoltaic module area. 380,000 tonnes ofCO2 could be saved each year if all efficient surfaces were fully utilised.
Detailed calculation results are available to the City of Chemnitz for each building, but cannot be published across the board for data protection reasons. However, they can be accessed free of charge at any time by the owner or the authorised leaseholder of the property via a contact form on the website.
