Smart Urban Services: MobiApp now available

Research project with the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering enters the test and trial phase

Smart Urban Services: MobiApp ab sofort verfügbar

The "MobiApp Chemnitz" mobility app has been available since today. The app is one of three Smart Urban Services developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering Stuttgart in collaboration with the city of Chemnitz.

The app can now be used by all interested parties who live or spend time in Chemnitz and the region to provide feedback on transport, mobility and public spaces. It is also possible to record and rate your own routes travelled in the city according to various criteria.

The analysed data is anonymised and made available to selected administrative offices. This prevents conclusions being drawn about individuals and protects the privacy of citizens. Furthermore, the data is only made available in a specially developed service platform after active consent and approval by the users.

The evaluation criteria include, for example, the punctuality of the selected means of transport, safety on the selected route or the structural condition of the transport routes used. The app can be downloaded from the Google Playstore free of charge and adverts. Users can also create design suggestions and mark the locations where they should be implemented.

These can then be used by the City of Chemnitz to follow up on any indications of damage, defects or deficiencies in public spaces, streets and squares and to rectify them in a targeted manner. This will promote direct contact with the city administration, ensuring that requests and information reach the relevant contact persons within the administration and can therefore be implemented more quickly.

Background to Smart Urban Services

After 28 Bluetooth sensors for collecting movement data in Chemnitz city centre and two environmental sensors were installed and put into operation in summer 2017, the launch of the MobiApp marks the second component of the research project "Smart Urban Services: Data-based service platform for the urban value creation of tomorrow". The research project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and will run until the end of 2018. Chemnitz is one of two city labs within the research project. The mobile application was developed by scientists from the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering Stuttgart together with employees from the city of Chemnitz.
