Six day-care centre projects receive funding
City of Chemnitz provides financial support for cultural education projects
A jury of representatives from the City of Chemnitz and the Chemnitzer Künstlerbund e. V. selected five artistic education projects from ten applications to receive a grant of 900 euros for fees and material costs. An additional project can be funded with a further 500 euros. Children between the ages of three and six are to be given access to artistic education as part of the subsidised projects.
Children from the Kinderladen Tigerente e. V. daycare centre will work with artist Anke Neumann to create a light object using paper scooping, which will be used permanently in the quiet room. Another kick-off will take place at the end of May at the Kinderhaus Leonardo daycare centre, where a backdrop will be created with artist Kerstin Lesselt for use in the performance of a sound concert. Also at the end of May, the Arche Noah daycare centre will begin working with wood artist Mario Scholz to design a fence, incorporating the children's ideas. At the open day-care centre on Martinstraße, children will work with artist Heda Bayer to create a yearbook using natural materials. Together with their parents and the artist Jacqueline Knappe, the children at the PampelMuse daycare centre will create a materials workshop that is freely accessible to the children and stores the seven things they need to realise their many ideas and fantasies.
Originally, only five projects were planned for funding. An additional, sixth project in the area of printing techniques can now be subsidised: At the Glückskäfer daycare centre, children will print on various materials with the artist Marcel Krebs.
The collaboration between daycare centres and artists results in projects that complement the daycare centres' offerings. The focus is not on imparting knowledge, but on giving children the opportunity to be creative and gain aesthetic experience. This promotes children's learning processes. The pilot project was developed by the Cultural Education Network Centre in the Vogtland-Zwickau cultural region and has been successfully implemented there since 2013. The Chemnitz pilot project is funded by the Saxon Ministry of Science and the Arts.
The Chemnitz jury was made up of Gabriele Aurich, representative of the Office for Youth and Family; Simone Becht, representative of the Municipal Cultural Management and Christin Busch, representative of the Chemnitzer Künstlerbund e. V. (Chemnitz Artists' Association).
