Situation on the Chemnitz rivers unchanged: Weather service continues to warn of continuous rain

The situation on the rivers in Chemnitz remains unchanged. Chemnitz, Würschnitz and Zwönitz are just below warning level 1 on Saturday evening (6.30 p.m.). The second-order watercourses, Pleißenbach and Kappelbach, are also currently outside the flood warning levels. However, the State Flood Centre and the German Weather Service continue to warn of heavy continuous rain at the weekend, which is repeatedly intensified by showers. Therefore, a renewed rise of the rivers in Chemnitz must still be expected.

All Chemnitz rivers are constantly monitored and regularly checked. Citizens along the waterways are called upon to take appropriate precautions and to keep themselves informed about the weather and flood situation.

The fire brigade had to respond to a total of 17 flood-related operations on Saturday. At the sandbag distribution points at the Erfenschlag and Glösa volunteer fire brigades and in Klaffenbach opposite the Baufeld company, 2,600 bags were handed out.

As a precautionary measure, the city council will also be operating a citizens' hotline on Sunday from 8 am to 6 pm on 0371 488-3344, which anyone seeking advice can call.
