Siemens inaugurates new production site
Siemens opened its new company building with a ceremony today. In the "Wasserschänke" industrial park in the Röhrsdorf district of Chemnitz, the technology group has brought together the majority of its previous sites in the city. In future, 700 employees will work here, including 60 in research and development.
Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig: "Together, we have succeeded in developing a new commercial site in a very short space of time and thus establishing a state-of-the-art production location. This gives one of the largest employers in Chemnitz a long-term perspective to expand and further develop its activities at the new site."
The city of Chemnitz has provided extensive support for the development of the production complex and made the approximately 80,000 m² site available. It includes the traffic development, which began in October 2012, with a connection to Leipziger Straße and the site clearance for media connections and equalisation measures.
As an extension of Röhrsdorfer Allee to the Siemens site, an access road was built parallel to Leipziger Straße as far as Obere Hauptstraße in Wittgensdorf by the end of May. The connection was extended with car parking spaces, pavements, deep beds for drainage and three bus stops. CVAG will extend bus route 21 to the new production site from 1 September.
The expansion also included all media such as sewerage, electricity, gas, drinking water and extinguishing water, lighting and communication. A footpath and cycle path link to the quarry housing estate in Wittgensdorf was also built.
The project was realised in cooperation between the civil engineering office, the energy service provider Eins and Mitteldeutsche Netzgesellschaft Strom mbH. The 3.1 million euro construction costs were subsidised by the Free State of Saxony with funds from the joint task "Improvement of the regional economic structure".
