On Wednesday, 19 April, from 6 to 7.30 p.m., the adult education centre invites you to a lecture on the topic of water supply in TIETZ, course room 4.07.
In 2023, the issue of water scarcity will become the focus of regional considerations. Speaker Alexander Held from the Saxony State Reservoir Administration will explain the current state of the drinking water supply, which is under pressure, and what precautions are being taken to maintain it.

Water scarcity is no longer a problem that supposedly only affects distant countries. Thanks to climate change, German summers are also characterised by incessant heat. The lack of snow in recent winters has also contributed to the ongoing drought. It is becoming increasingly unlikely that water resources will recover due to years of high precipitation, especially in eastern Germany. The consequences of the drought are recognisable everywhere here. But water shortages are not only becoming an indirect problem for us citizens due to crisis-prone agriculture and forestry. The question of the consequences for the regional drinking water supply is becoming increasingly direct. How can the supply of our most important foodstuff be guaranteed for everyone? It is more important than ever to organise the water supply sustainably.
The event will focus on the work of the state reservoir administration. As a state-owned enterprise of the Free State of Saxony, its tasks include water supply, water maintenance and flood protection. Using the example of the Freiberger Mulde/Zschopau operation, speaker Alexander Held will present the dams and their management tasks in Central Saxony and the Erzgebirgskreis. In view of the ongoing drought, the special requirements for nature and water conservation will be explained and the measures and precautions taken to safeguard the water supply will be demonstrated. Held will also discuss the preservation of the dams as historical facilities and the complete renovation of the Lichtenberg dam. After the presentation, there will be time for a discussion with the speaker.
