Seven-year-old piano talent wins 1st prize in Hamburg
Chemnitz music student Ben Lepetit successful at the Steinway Piano Competition
Congratulations: Ben Lepetit - a promising seven-year-old piano talent from Chemnitz - won first prize in age group A at the Steinway Piano Competition 2013 in Hamburg last Sunday (photo). The successful young pianist's achievements were also honoured with a scholarship in his age group from the Oskar and Vera Ritter Foundation, which supports highly talented young pianists.
The competition concert took place on Sunday in the Great Hall of Hamburg's sold-out Laeisz Halle after a qualifying round. Ben Lepetit played works by Joseph Haydn and Bohuslav Martinu.
Music school director Nancy Gibson is delighted about the success of one of her music students: "We are very happy about this great news! The team at Chemnitz Municipal Music School congratulates Ben Lepetit wholeheartedly on his 1st prize in the competition and also on the scholarship - this is a wonderful honour and also support for his further artistic work. Last but not least, the awards are also a nice proof of the success of the excellent lessons that Ben Lepetit has been receiving from Michael Fröhlich at the Chemnitz Municipal Music School for three and a half years."
In June 2013, the then six-year-old Ben was the youngest participant in the "Johann Ludwig Krebs" piano and organ competition in Altenburg, winning first prize in the piano category, age group A to ten years. Last year, the Chemnitz music student had already taken part in the 2012 Steinway Piano Competition in Hamburg and won 2nd prize in his age group. Last but not least, Ben was one of the participants in the ZDF show "Deutschlands Superhirn - Kids" in August 2013 and came 2nd in the public's favour.
