City of Chemnitz offers citizens additional service
There is a self-service terminal on the 2nd floor of the Citizens' Office, Düsseldorfer Platz 1, which is still in trial operation for a week. The "speed capture station" will be opened on
9 May 2016 at 8.30 a.m. by Mayor
Miko Runkel will officially put it into operation.

At the self-service terminal, citizens can capture the necessary biometric features, such as photo, fingerprints and signature, themselves when applying for an ID document. Citizens are guided step by step through the enrolment process via an easy-to-understand menu in several languages.
Once the encrypted data has been saved, it is retrieved by the clerk directly from the station at the workplace. Once the application has been successfully processed, the data is automatically deleted after 12 hours. The new device is certified by the Federal Office for Information Security.
The fee for taking or recording the biometric data is 3 euros and is collected together with the fee for the ID document when the application is submitted. Citizens do not receive a printout of the photo. The costs are a one-off charge.
This service is currently only available at the Bürgeramt, Bürgerhaus Am Wall, Düsseldorfer Platz.
Please note:
The self-service terminal must be used before the waiting number is called up so that the data for the appointment with the clerk is already available. You should therefore allow sufficient time for the biometric data to be created.
