Section of Zwickauer Straße to be renewed
At its meeting today, the city council decided to renovate Zwickauer Straße in the direction of the city centre between the Goethestraße junction and the Reichsstraße junction and to provide additional funds of around 658,000 euros for this purpose.
The reason for the renovation is that the section of road has cracks in the network and deep ruts. Due to the heavy traffic load, the road surface is not resistant enough. In order to ensure a safe carriageway, the asphalt surface will be replaced.
As part of the construction work, the drainage systems will also be repaired in some areas and kerbs and channel strips will be replaced. Lines for traffic lights will also be laid. Around 45 metres of Goethestraße will also be renovated.
The construction work is scheduled to be carried out between mid-June 2024 and the beginning of September 2024. The carriageway will be closed on one side. The total costs for the section, which will be financed entirely from the city's own funds, amount to 689,000 euros, of which around 30,000 euros were already available in 2023.
