Section of the south ring road is being renewed
Part of an overall measure with ESC and one
At its meeting today, the city council decided to renew the carriageway on the Südring in the section between the Südring/Helbersdorfer Straße and Südring/Markersdorfer Straße junctions.
The section of road is characterised by severe and deep ruts, patches and cracks. The ruts and cracks indicate that the road surface does not have sufficient load-bearing capacity for the prevailing traffic load and, in particular, that there is a lack of bond within the bituminous bound layers. The traffic and civil engineering department will therefore completely renew the carriageway.
A total of around 611,000 euros will be invested in the rehabilitation of the carriageway. Of this, 144,000 euros are the city's own funds and 467,000 euros come as a lump sum allocation for roads and cycle paths from the Saxon Financial Equalisation Act.
The construction period is scheduled from the beginning of September to mid-October 2024, but this depends on the progress of the overall construction project.
The measure is part of a coordinated construction project by the waste disposal company of the city of Chemnitz (ESC), the utility company eins and the traffic and civil engineering office of the city of Chemnitz. The overall project is being led by the ESC, which is renovating the sewer network.
