Section of the premium cycle path is officially inaugurated

On Thursday 13 July at 1 p.m., Minister of State Martin Dulig and Mayor Knut Kunze will set off on a cycle tour along the Küchwald-Wüstenbrand premium cycle path, section from Rudolf-Krahl-Straße to Riedstraße. On the cycle path below Rudolf-Krahl-Straße at the level of the renaturalised Pleißenbach stream (coordinates: 50.834197, 12.876566), the two will ceremoniously open the two new sections at around 2.15 pm: The 2.8 kilometre** long section from Riedstraße to Kalkstraße (subsection 2.1) and the 1.4 kilometre** long section from Kalkstraße to Rudolf-Krahl-Straße (subsection 3.0) were completed at the end of June.
The width of the carriageway is 4 metres in each case, both on the asphalted sections and on the paved sections that are important for amphibians to cross.
The total cost of the construction phase is around 6.5 million euros, 90 per cent of which is funded by the federal and state governments.
The two sections are to be connected by a new cycle path bridge over Kalkstraße. As the new construction is still pending, the two sections of cycle path will initially be temporarily connected at ground level via Kalkstraße.
The Küchwald-Wüstenbrand premium cycle path has a total length of 13.6 kilometres**. The construction project will be realised in four planning sections and further subsections in stages. The next section from Rudolf-Krahl-Straße to Paul-Jäkel-Straße (subsection 3.1) will be ready for use by the end of 2024. The completion of the sections from Wüstenbrand to Riedstraße (subsections 1 and 2.0) and the section from Paul-Jäkel-Straße to Wittgensdorfer Straße (subsection 4) have not yet been scheduled.
