Secondary school Arno-Schreiter-Straße 1 ready for occupancy

On Monday, 13 August, the new school year will also begin at the newly opened secondary school at Arno-Schreiter-Straße 1. The two mayors Sven Schulze and Michael Stötzer will officially open the school together with the headmaster Joachim Poitschke. It will begin at 9 am. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to this event.
In recent years, around 4.8 million euros have been invested in the refurbishment and equipment of the building to create modern teaching conditions for pupils. A further 2.2 million euros have been earmarked for the two sports halls next door.
With the handover of the renovated building at Arno-Schreiter-Straße 1, the city of Chemnitz will open a new secondary school at the start of the 2018/19 school year, initially as a branch of the Albert-Schweitzer-Oberschule. From 2020/2021, it will then form an independent secondary school location. The building of the former Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium has been renovated since 2016. In future, the school building, designed for three classes, will offer space for up to 450 pupils. During the refurbishment, approaches for inclusive teaching were taken into account. Due to the positive trend in pupil numbers, a need for capacity had already been apparent since 2015, particularly in the secondary school sector. In April 2016, the city council therefore decided, among other things, to build a new secondary school at the Arno-Schreiter-Straße 1 site.
In this context, the "Ernst Busch" speech therapy school was partly relocated to the building at Arno-Schreiter-Straße 3 and to the site at Ernst-Wabra-Straße 34.
