SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT prize awarded to Chemnitz co-operation
Bringing more business into schools: 3rd place for sustainable educational commitment
Yesterday, the nationwide SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT Deutschland network honoured the Chemnitz-based cooperation between the company FDTech GmbH and Johann-Wolfgang-von-Goethe-Gymnasium with this year's SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT "Making commitment visible" award. They were honoured with 3rd place in the "Cooperation between schools and companies" category for their sustainable commitment to education in the "Business meets schools" pilot project of the city of Chemnitz. The award ceremony took place at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection in Berlin.
At the SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT award ceremony, outstanding companies and schools were honoured for their commitment at the interface between school and work. The winners impressed the jury with concepts and measures that provide young people with practical insights into the world of work. In the "School-Company Cooperation" category, cooperation between schools and companies is honoured.
The SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT Deutschland network is awarding the prize, which is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, for the 13th time this year. Further information on this year's award winners can be found at: www.schulewirtschaft.de/preis
"Business Meets School" is a project run by the City of Chemnitz's Department of Economics to secure skilled labour in Chemnitz, which was launched at the start of the 2023/24 school year. Once a week, companies organise practical lessons based on the curriculum for classes from grade 7 upwards. On the one hand, this is a benefit for pupils, who miss fewer lessons and at the same time are taught maths, technology or physics in a very practical way, and on the other hand for companies, which can establish a bond with the young people at a very early stage and, in the best case, inspire them to join their company as potential skilled workers.
In a second version of the project, pupils visit the companies once a week and gain practical experience on site.
Four secondary schools, two grammar schools, one special school and 15 companies and external partners are currently involved in the Chemnitz "Business meets school" project. It is possible to join at any time. Companies that would also like to participate are welcome to contact wirtschaft(at)stadt-chemnitz.de by email.
