Schools and daycare centres resume operations
Individual school locations and daycare centres cannot be used
School operations can resume tomorrow in Chemnitz. Exceptions to this are the Einsiedel grammar school, Annen primary and secondary school, Altchemnitz learning support school and Harthau primary school. The property at Philipp-Straße 20 of the Georg-Weerth-Mittelschule can only be used to a limited extent.
The daycare centres in Moritzstraße (alternative premises: Waisenstraße 3) and Einsiedler Hauptstraße (alternative premises: Reichenhainer Straße 33) will remain closed tomorrow. The day-care centres in Schulstraße and Gustav-Freytag-Straße can reopen on Tuesday.
The disaster alert has been cancelled since 13:30 today. The situation on the Chemnitz waterways has eased considerably.
The fire brigade, including the professional fire brigade and volunteer fire brigades, as well as the police are in action. The THW, ASB and DRK are also deployed with numerous volunteers and police. 200 firefighters have arrived from Berlin as reinforcements. The main task is to pump out cellars. A total of 800 households are still without power. For more information, please contact the press office of eins energie sachsen (Astrid Eberius, phone: 0371 525 - 5210).
Access to administrative buildings is currently difficult for citizens, the buildings are not barrier-free as the lifts in the town hall and the BVZ Moritzhof are out of order. The Tietz will remain closed today, but will reopen tomorrow.
Filling points for sandbags are still active: citizens can currently obtain sandbags from the Erfenschlag (Dr.-Karl-Wolf-Straße 1) and Glösa (Bornaer Straße 205) volunteer fire brigades if required.
The roads that were closed due to the flooding and continuous rain are now being gradually reopened. Annaberger Strasse (between Bahnhofstrasse and Treffurtstrasse) and the bridge at the market hall are expected to be closed for a longer period of time. Drivers should also pay attention to the signs on site. Up-to-date information is available on the Internet. Pedestrian bridges that are closed are not accessible to pedestrians.
There are also restrictions today on the CVAG and Citybahn lines (line 522). Details can be found at www.cvag.de and www.city-bahn.de.
The city swimming pool, which was also affected by the floods, must remain closed until further notice.
All of Chemnitz's rivers are being constantly monitored and regularly checked. Citizens along the waterways are called upon to take appropriate precautions and to continue to inform themselves about the weather and flood situation. The city administration is keeping the citizens' hotline on 0371 488-3344 open until 10 p.m. today, so that anyone seeking advice can contact it.
It is requested that the emergency number and the fire brigade control centre are only called for people in danger and medical emergencies. For all other questions, please contact the citizens' hotline.
Anyone looking for people can also contact the district information centre on 0371 70080113.
