School network planning: Administration presents new proposal for Charlottenstraße primary school site
Next Tuesday, the City of Chemnitz will propose an amended proposal on school network planning in the City of Chemnitz to the City Council. The aim is to strike a balance between the various interests at the planned primary school site at Charlottenstraße 52.
The new two-form entry primary school is to be built there from the 2021/2022 school year using mobile classrooms. Commissioning and the associated relocation of classes from the mobile classrooms to the new primary school building are planned for the 2023/2024 school year. In contrast to the original plans, sports lessons are to be held in a new 1-field hall (instead of a 2-field hall) on the school grounds. The "Charlottenstraße" garage location will remain in this variant in accordance with the garage concept approved by the city council.
From the point of view of school network planning, there is a need to build a primary school with two classes. Site investigations led to the proposal to re-establish the Charlottenstraße 52 site. In order to meet the shortfall in sports hall capacity at the same time, the construction of a Zweifeld hall on the opposite garage site was suggested.
However, this would possibly lead to the loss of at least parts of the garage complex. Weighing up the interests of the garage users on the one hand and the school's needs for the children on the other, the compromise proposed was to build only a single-field hall. This can be realised on the site, provided that the small playing field is also used by the after-school care centre and a spatial solution is found for the school garden (e.g. in the neighbouring garden plot). In this way, a balance of interests can be achieved.
As a result, however, the need for additional sports halls is not reduced and the outdoor areas are not optimised.
